PIF Continues To Support Children In Haiti

During such trying times in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake down in Haiti, Playing It Forward continues to reach out to children in the country.  Through the incredible efforts of a PIF volunteer who was on a medical assistance mission to Haiti, soccer balls were delivered to children to provide them with some amusement during such difficult times.

December 8, 2009 – NBA Development League
SPRINGFIELD, MA Dec. 8, 2009 – The Springfield Armor, the YMCA of Greater Springfield and Playing It Forward, a recognized 501c3 non-profit charity whose mission is to provide new and used sports equipment to disadvantaged children around the world, announce today a partnership in conjunction with the Armor’s December 10th game against the Tulsa 66ers.

Playing It Forward representatives will be on hand at the game collecting new and gently used sports equipment for children in need in Greater Springfield. The primary benefactor of all of the equipment donated that evening will be the YMCA’s Youth & Teen Drop-In Centers, for use by the nearly 600 youth involved with these centers.

“I am thrilled to have the Springfield Armor and the YMCA as a partner to help support the mission of Playing It Forward,” said Playing It Forward founder David Cohen Together, “we will be able to provide much needed sports equipment to children in need locally. I hope this is the beginning of a long and meaningful relationship with the focus on supporting children from around the Springfield area and the world.”

As an added incentive for fans to donate, the Armor will be issuing free tickets to a future game for those making donations that evening. “The Armor are very excited to be partnering with Playing It Forward and the YMCA of Greater Springfield,” Eric Reddy, the Armor’s Director of Sales, commented, “In this giving time of year we know Armor fans will embrace this night and this cause and we’re happy to donate two tickets to a future Armor game to all fans who donate sports equipment to these great organizations.”

“This is an amazing gift and comes at a time when budgets are tight” stated Andrea Luppi, Director of Development for the YMCA. “This donation of sports equipment will allow us to expand fitness opportunities that promote physical exercise, team building and friendly competition for the hundreds of young people who have made our youth and teen centers a “home way from home.”

Game time is set for 7pm on the 10th at the MassMutual Center and tickets are still available. For more information about the Springfield Armor and Playing It Forward Night or to purchase tickets, call               (413) 746-3263         (413) 746-3263 or log on to www.ArmorHoops.com.
